Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability

Scholarship is open to students enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student in a program at a college or university pursing an undergraduate degree, or enrolled part-time or full-time in a graduate program, pursuing a post graduate degree. Applicant must have a disability. Preference is given to students majoring in a field related to disability and health.

Award: $1,000

VSA Playwright Discovery Award

This award is for students in 6th through 12th grade who are US citizens or permanent residents. Applicants are invited to take a closer look at the world around them, examine how disability affects their lives and the lives of others, and express their views through the art of playwriting. Applicants must submit a one-act play script on the subject of disability; entries may be the work of an individual student or a collaboration by a group or class of students. Playwrights can write from their own experience or about an experience in the life of another person or a fictional character. Young playwrights with and without disabilities are encouraged to submit a script. The five award recipients receive a $1,000 cash award and a trip to Washington, DC over Labor Day weekend to participate in workshops and view a reading of their work on stage.

Arizona Elks Special Needs Student Grant Award

All applicants for this grant award must be citizens of the United States of America on the date the application is filed. To qualify for the “Special Needs Grant” the applicant must submit either or both of the following: A signed letter from a qualified medical doctor validating the applicant’s medical disability OR A signed letter from a qualified professional educator (School Psychologist, etc.) stating the applicant’s educational handicap

Luis E. Torres Scholarship Award - $500-$1000










Program Description
The Luis E. Torres Scholarship Award is designed to assist students who have overcome a medical hardship in pursuit of higher education. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis to:

•Graduating High School Seniors
•Community College Students
•Community College Transfer Students
•Undergraduate Students
•Graduate Students

Award amounts generally range from $500 to $1,000

Eligibility Requirements
•Scholarships awarded to individual(s) with a documented illness/disability
•Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired)
•Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
•Have plans to enroll FULL-TIME in a degree seeking program at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam during the 2013-2014 academic year
•Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
•Be pursuing first undergraduate or graduate degree
