Emerge Scholarships for Women - $2000-$5000

Emerge Scholarship Winners

The Emerge Scholarships Inc. (Emerge) scholarship program (www.emergescholarships.org) has awarded nearly a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships since its founding year, 2001. While each year hundreds of applicants apply for the scholarships, they are only able to recognize a small number of winners. The selection committee is focused on identifying special women – non-traditional students whose education was delayed or interrupted, individuals with a vision to succeed regardless of any obstacles that life has put in their way. They are especially interested in recognizing women who give back to their communities and whose goals and desires for education align with their passions. Additionally, preference is given to women who are pursuing their educational endeavors in the state of Georgia.

This may include women who are returning to school after a hiatus, changing careers, seeking advancement in their career or work life, and stay-at-home moms entering the work place and in need of additional education/training. This scholarship is not intended for recent high school graduates or women who are eligible for or who have already received other significant financial aid.

Scholarship Information

The money provided by the Emerge scholarship may only be used to pay for tuition and fees at the educational institution. The scholarship check will be made out directly to the institution with instructions to only apply the funds to the student’s current account to pay for school tuition and fees. If awarded, your scholarship funds will be available as of March 2014 and may be paid towards tuition, books and fees from that time until Fall 2018, or until the full scholarship funds are used.

The exact amount of each scholarship and the total number of scholarships to be awarded will vary from year to year (13 scholarships were awarded in 2013). The approximate value of each award for 2014 will be $2,000 - $5,000 (amount is subject to change).

Deadline: October 31, 2013.

2013 Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women Program - $1000

Linda Lael Miller will award $10,000 in scholarships to eligible women to pursue their goals of improving their lot in life through education. Applications for the 2013 Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women will be accepted from June 1, 2013, through close of business (5 p.m. CST) Friday, August 30, 2013. Only the official application will be accepted.

For more information about the program, email Nancy Berland Public Relations at nbpr@nancyberland.com or call 1-800-308-3169.

Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women Program Overview

Since 2001, through her scholarship program, Linda Lael Miller has awarded more than $100,000 in grants to women age 25 and older who have experienced barriers to fulfilling their education.

“Non-traditional female students have a difficult time finding scholarships,” said Linda, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 100 books. “These scholarships target those women specifically.”

The funds may be used not only for tuition, educational fees and books, but also for child care, transportation and other expenses not covered by traditional scholarships.

To qualify, a woman must be 25 years old or older, a U.S. or Canadian legal resident attending, or enrolled to attend, a U.S. or Canadian college or university. Applicants must submit an essay or 500 words or less that includes information on why the student is applying for the scholarship, how achieving her educational goals will enhance her and her family’s future, the specific purpose for the funds and the dollar amount requested. The maximum grant is $1,000 per winner.

Past winners have included single and married parents, women overcoming domestic violence, those coping with disabilities or the disabilities of family members, older students who needed to upgrade their job skills and women conquering their own early life struggles.

“What all these women have in common is hope, persistence and a commitment to a better life for themselves and their families,” said Linda.

The prolific author is no stranger to adversity. She struggled for years as she worked toward her dream of becoming an author. She started the scholarship program “as a way to give back. I was once a single parent, with my back to the wall a lot of the time, and I know how it feels.

“My philosophy is, ‘Educate a woman, impact endless future generations,’” said Linda. “Each of these scholarships will have a long-lasting effect on the recipients’ families and will help demonstrate to their children and their children’s children that a woman can overcome adversity and succeed, through education.”
