"Why I Write" Scholarship Slam - $1000-$2000

This scholarship is for students who are between the ages of 13 and 25 years of age and residents of the 50 United States, DC, or Puerto Rico. To apply, youth are encouraged to express what poetry means to them and how they were introduced to this written form. Winners will be chosen at random after the Power Poetry team performs quality checks to ensure poems are not plagiarized and that applicants have only submitted one poem each.

Do you remember when you first realized that writing poetry was a good way to express yourself and reflect your deepest thoughts? Obviously writing poetry is important to you, but the reasons for writing differ for every poet. Here’s a chance for you to share a poem about how poetry came to be a part of your life story. Submit a poem about what poetry means to you for your chance to win $1,000 to put towards your college education.

Deadline: Aug 15, 2013

Award Range: $1,000 - $2,000
