Women in Service to Our Communities Scholarship

Women in Service to Our Communities (WSC) is pleased to offer a Scholarship of $500 for an undergraduate or a graduate student. The scholarship is intended to benefit students who are actively involved in community service. REQUIREMENTS — Please remit the following with this application: 1. Completed, typed scholarship application form. 2. Two letters of reference, on organization letterhead, from adults (not a family member or someone you are related to) who can speak to your involvement in community service. 3. Community Service Resume (NOT a work resume) highlighting service you have volunteered for in addition to hours required by your school. Along with a statement answering the question, “How does your faith influence your community service”. 4. Typed 300 word essay responding to the question: “Please briefly describe an important economic, environmental, or social issue facing communities today. For the issue you have chosen, and based on your service experience and school studies, please describe how an individual can help address this issue.” 5. Proof of being enrolled or accepted in an institution of higher learning for fall 2015 (college transcript or letter of enrollment/acceptance). Applicants must be enrolled and taking classes in fall 2015, and again show proof of taking classes if awarded the scholarship.

East Villagers Service Scholar Contest

This contest is for young, service-minded scholars enrolled in middle through high school in the United States and Canada. To qualify for this contest, applicants must complete five hours of community service and fill out the Service Requirement Form as proof. To apply, applicants must submit an essay that explains why community service is important to them, or a piece of artwork (fine art, digital art, photography, or video) that captures and promotes the spirit of volunteerism and inspires others to get more involved in public service.

Nordstrom Scholarship Program

This scholarship is for high school juniors who live and attend school in a state with a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store. Eligible states are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have at least a 2.7 GPA throughout high school and volunteer or participate in community services or extracurricular activities. Applicants must plan on attending an accredited college or university in the United States during the four years over which the scholarship is distributed, and plan to apply for financial assistance to attend college. Applicants also must have not been convicted of any crime.

Hamilton Award

Alexander Hamilton Friends Association 

This scholarship is for college-bound high school juniors who are currently attending a high school in the United States. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a strong record of community service, show a strong commitment to their academic studies, and demonstrate financial and/or personal need. Applicants must be self-starters, and have proven this through activities such as organizing a fundraiser, starting a business, creating a club or organization, or working to help support their family. Applicants must also show passion and commitment to their interests; this is often manifested in athletic, artistic, or academic achievements. Recipients of this scholarship are automatically enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy (see website for details). US citizenship is not required; however, scholarship winners must be able to provide a US mailing address for award package delivery.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

This award is for students in middle school and high school who have made a difference through volunteering over the past year. To qualify, applicants must be in grades 5-12 as of November 4 and legal residents of any US state or Washington DC. Applicants must have engaged in a community service activity that occurred at least partly during the 12 months prior to the date of application submission. Applicants must complete and submit an application to a school principal or the head of an officially designated local organization by the deadline. See website for more details.

Chely Wright LIKE ME Scholarship

This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors who can show that they have actively advocated for LGBT issues, such as respect and inclusion for LGBT youth, community service at an LGBT resource, involvement and/or attendance of LGBT events, working against teen bullying or teen suicide, and any other activities that improve the condition of the LGBT community and/or improve cultural conditions for LGBT youth (This list serves as examples only, and each student’s personal, individual advocacy will be different). To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must maintain a B- average. Scholarships will be awarded based on demonstration of past leadership, LGBT community service involvement, financial need, academic credentials, personal essay, future goals, and possibly an individual interview.

This scholarship is for incoming college sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are pursuing a degree in business. Jack & Jill of America Foundation Scholarship

United Negro College Fund (UNCF)

This scholarship is for African American high school seniors who will become students and maintain full-time status at an accredited, four-year post-secondary institution in the upcoming fall semester. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and be working toward a bachelor's degree. Applicants must demonstrate that they have performed at least one community service project. Dependents of members of Jack & Jill of America are not eligible for this scholarship.

Award: $1500-$2500

I'm First Scholarship

This scholarship is for high school (or home-schooled) seniors who are attending school in the United States. To qualify, applicants must be first-generation college students, i.e., neither parent has earned a four-year college degree, and attend an I'm First partner college or university. Ideal candidates will display the following qualities: seeking financial aid and scholarship support for college, strong writing skills and unique perspective, strong capacity for reflection for blogging, experience with or commitment to community service, leadership experience, and commitment to helping expand educational opportunities for other first-generation students. Scholarship winners are not selected based on academic qualifications such as GPA, SAT/ACT scores, or intended majors. Undocumented students are eligible and strongly encouraged to apply.

Los Hermanos de Stanford Scholarship

This scholarship is for Latino/a students who are graduating from high school with plans to attend any two- or four-year institution of higher learning (students planning to attend community college are welcome to apply). Attending Stanford University is not a requirement. Applicants will be judged on their contributions to the guiding principles of Los Hermanos de Stanford: community service, academic excellence, and cultural awareness. Financial need will be taken into account. The scholarship will not be disbursed until Los Hermanos de Stanford receives proof of enrollment. Non-US citizenship will not affect eligibility.

Bill Dickey Scholarship

This scholarship is for high school seniors who participate in golf. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Scholarships are awarded based on scholarship application, personal recommendations, GPA, participation in golf, school and community service activities, financial needs, employment, extracurricular activities, and other responsibilities.
