Annual Kaplun Essay Contest
Contest is open to students in grades 7 through 12. Applicant must submit an essay related to Jewish values. Students do not have to be Jewish to enter.

Nicholas A. Virgilio Memorial Haiku Competition
Haiku Society of America
This competition is for students in grades 7 through 12 who are enrolled in school as of September 2015. To enter, applicants must submit up to three haiku poems. All haiku must be previously unpublished, original work, and not entered in any other contest or submitted elsewhere for publication. See website for submission details.

Young Naturalist Awards
American Museum of Natural History
This award is for students in grades seven through twelve who are enrolled in a public, private, parochial, or homeschool in the United States, Canada, or the US territories. Citizens in a US-sponsored school abroad are also eligible. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must plan and conduct their own scientific investigation and submit their findings. Completed entries may be submitted digitally from January 1 to March 1. Sons and daughters of American Museum of Natural History employees or consultants are not eligible to enter the Young Naturalist Awards.
Award: $50-$2500

Annual Kaplun Essay Contest
This essay contest is for students who are in grades 7 through 12. Level 1 of the contest is for students from grades 7, 8, and 9, and level 2 is for students from grades 10, 11, and 12. To apply for this scholarship, applicants in each level must write an essay that addresses a given topic. Level 1 applicants must write on the topic: "Up to now, which of your good deeds are you most proud of, why, and how has it changed you?" Level 2 applicants must write on the topic: "Of all the many aspects, tenets, and traditionals of Judaism, which single one do you view as the most important for you to pass on to the next generation?"
Award: $750 - $1800
