This scholarship provides highly qualified individuals with an opportunity to do independent study in Germany or to complete a full master's degree program at a German college or university. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be graduating undergraduate seniors, graduate students, or recent college graduates who received their bachelor's degree no more than six years before the application deadline. Applicants should be US or Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Foreign nationals are eligible if they have been full-time students at an accredited US or Canadian University for at least two years at the time of application. Applicants may not have lived in Germany for more than one year as of the application date. Candidates may be 1) pursuing a master's program at a German university or 2) pursuing a well-defined independent study or research program that necessitates a stay in Germany; independent study applicants must have an invitation from an academic partner at a German university or research institution. Candidates in the arts, humanities, and social sciences should have a good command of German.
