EngineerGirl Essay Contest

National Academy of Engineering

This essay contest is for high school students - men and women - in grades 3 through 12 (ages 8-18). To apply, applicants must write an original essay on a given topic related to engineering. Essays will be judged on the basis of content, research, expression, and originality. This contest is open to students from countries outside the United States; however, students must make an effort to be sure they enter in the appropriate grade category, and all essays will be held to the same standards, even if the student is not a native English speaker.

Award: $100-$500

Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

This award is for classical musicians, vocalists, and composers between the ages of 8 and 18 who have not yet entered college during the academic year 2014-2015. To qualify, applicants must be interested in performing on "From the Top," and demonstrate the following in order of importance: exceptional musical achievement, unmet financial need, solid academic achievement, and strength of character. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until February 1, 2015; however, high school seniors must submit their application by October 15.

Award: $10,000
