William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship for Minority Students

Aspen Institute

This fellowship is for graduate and undergraduate minority students from underrepresented communities of color. To qualify, applicants should have an excellent academic record and the following: demonstrated interest or experience in nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and the social sector; excellent research and writing skills; demonstrated financial need; and US citizenship or permanent residency. Students must be able to work as interns for 12-15 weeks in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen institute during the academic semester in which the fellowship is awarded. Fall and Spring interns will work part-time (15-20 hours per week) and Summer interns will be full-time). A fellowship stipend of approximately $2,000 will be awarded to the fall and spring intern and approximately $4,000 to the summer intern.

Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship

This scholarship is for minority students who are enrolled in a technical degree program at the bachelor's level or above. Technical fields include chemistry, information management, computing & software systems, material science, printing management science, laser optics, physics, and engineering (chemical, computer, electrical, imaging, manufacturing, mechanical optical, or software). To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must be US citizens or visa-holding permanent residents and be of African American, Asian, Pacific Islander, American Indian, Alaska Native, or Hispanic descent. Spouses and children of Xerox employees are not eligible for this scholarship.

This scholarship is for women and minority students who are pursuing degrees leading to careers in computer and video game arts (high school seniors must already be accepted into a program). To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Applicants must have a 2.75 GPA or above and be US citizens.

LIN Media Minority Scholarship & Training Program

This scholarship is for minority students who are pursuing careers in broadcast television or digital media. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and be a declared major in broadcast journalism, digital multimedia, mass/speech/digital communication, television production, or marketing at an accredited university of college within the United States. Applicants must have completed sufficient semester hours or similar education units to be classified by their college or university as sophomore. Applicants must be citizens of the United States or have permanent resident status; and be of non-white origin. Scholarship recipients will be awarded a two-year scholarship in addition to placement in a paid internship program at one of LIN Media's television stations around the country. Recipients will also be assigned full-time positions at LIN Media upon graduation and successful completion of the training program.

The Emma L. Bowen Foundation for Minority Interests in Media is currently recruiting nationwide for multi-year, paid internship positions at media companies across the U.S.

Minority students who are graduating high school seniors or college freshmen, have at least a 3.0 GPA, an interest in the media industry, and plan to attend a four-year college are eligible to apply to the program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents, and speak and write English fluently. The Emma L. Bowen Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to prepare minority students for careers in the media. The Foundation will celebrate its 25th Anniversary in 2014! The program focuses on scholastic achievement, direct work experience and professional development. Students work each summer until graduation from college and earn both salaries and matching scholarship funds. Over a period four years, the students experience numerous aspects of corporate operations and develop company-specific skills with the goal of full-time employment after graduation. The Foundation provides additional professional development opportunities at its annual summer conferences, Link Mentoring program and New Media and Technology program. Approximately 250 students currently participate as interns with 40 partner companies, including some of the nation’s largest and most influential media firms and vendors in broadcast television, cable, and film.
