This week, May 7-11, is Teacher Appreciation Week, and for Arizona this has a greater meaning this year. Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed a historic movement — #RedForEd — where Arizona teachers, school personnel, parents, students and community members joined forces to advocate for a quality education for Arizona students. Our teachers took the lead and put themselves on the frontline to advocate not only for themselves, but for their students. Metropolitan Education Commission Civic Engagement Day

Yesterday, 3/7/2018, students from 10 Tucson area high schools, through the Metropolitan Education Commission and being part of the Youth Advisory Council/Tucson Teen Congress, participated in a Civic Engagement Day in Phoenix, speaking to lawmakers in the House and Senate regarding their concerns on multiple topics including school safety, prison education funding, certified teacher retention, school counselor recruitment, and college readiness.
