Berrien Fragos Thorn Arts Scholarships for Migrant Farmworkers

Geneseo Migrant Center 

These scholarships are for individuals with a history of migration to obtain work in agriculture. To qualify for these scholarships, applicants must be at least 16 years of age and demonstrate an interest in pursuing further development of their talents in one of the following disciplines: visual arts, performing arts, media (film, video, animation, computer graphics, etc.), and crafts (traditional folk arts, furniture weaving, pottery, etc.). There are two options in applying for funding: option one (grants under $500) has no deadline for applicants and requests are reviewed case-by-case; option two (grants up to $2500) has application deadlines of June 1 and November 1 and requires that a portfolio or samples of work and a budget or documentation of expenses be submitted with the application. Because no essay is required, the letter of recommendation is very important and should address the qualify of both the applicant and intended project. Applicants do not need to be enrolled in school.

Annie's Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship

Annie’s Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Application. Sustainable and organic agriculture is at the heart of everything they do. That’s why each year they award scholarships to students through their Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship program. They're proud to support the next generation of farmers committed to sustainable farming practices by offering $100,000 in funds to students studying sustainable agriculture.

Annie’s Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full time undergraduate and graduate students studying at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or graduate school in the U.S. for the 2014/2015 school year. Students must be focusing studies on sustainable agriculture. International students may apply as long as they are studying at a U.S. school.

Annie’s accepts applications postmarked between October 1, 2013 and December 2nd 2013. If you are chosen to receive an award, you will be notified by April 15th, 2014, and funds will be dispersed directly to your school on or around July 15, 2014.

The application consists of two parts- your application and your supporting documents. Complete the application cover page, sign the form and draft a personal statement. Your supporting documents consist of an official copy of your transcript and two letters of recommendation from someone who can speak to your commitment to Sustainable Agriculture. The letters of recommendation must be from contacts that are NOT related to you. Letters of recommendation should be in a sealed envelope and the writer should sign the seal.

Migrant Farmworker Baccalaureate Scholarship

The deadline for this scholarship is annually by July 1st, 2013. Award: $2000

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to a deserving student with a history of migrating for employment in agriculture who has successfully completed one year of college. This support will cover expenses beyond what the youth is entitled to in federal/state and other scholarship assistance. This scholarship is designed to assist the youth in obtaining a baccalaureate degree without being encumbered with substantial debt.
This scholarship is made available through a generous endowment from a concerned individual for the education of children of migrant farmworkers. The donor wishes to remain anonymous.

A.W. Bodine-Sunkist Memorial Scholarship - $2000

A.W. The Bodine-Sunkist scholarship honors the memory of Sunkist board vice chairman Arthur W. Bodine. Eligibility requirements include financial need and a family or personal involvement in California or Arizona agriculture. It is open to students entering any phase of their undergraduate college career, at any school, and in any field of study. Please remember that the student and/or a member of the immediate family (parents/siblings/grandparents) must be, have been or currently be involved in California or Arizona agriculture. The number of recipients varies each year, with selection based on factors such as financial need, grade point average, college board test scores, recommendations and an essay.
