Domo Scholarship for Business Management - $2,500

About the scholarship

For the 2013 academic year, Domo will provide two scholarships of $2,500 each for college students who are studying business management and who show an interest in analytics.

Here’s why:

Gartner Research says that over the next four years, “a total of 6 million jobs in the U.S. will be generated by the information economy.” Accenture and SAS research also state that in 2012, “nearly three in four (72%) business in the US were planning to increase their spending on analytics—even as many other budgets were squeezed.” However, Gartner’s research also suggests that only about one-third of global demand for new big data-related jobs will actually be met.

While pundits are accrediting the gap to IT departments and pivot table experts, Domo believes there will be a huge demand for mid-level and senior managers with hands-on experience accessing and applying data-driven insights to better manage their business.

Find Scholarships!

Excerpt from the article: 4 Overlooked Ways to Pay for College, by

Full article here:  http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2011/07/07/4-overlooked-ways-to-pay-for-college?page=2

Explore last-minute options: If you are beginning college this fall, don't assume it's too late to find scholarships, SimpleTuition's Walker says. Use these next few weeks to scour the Internet, community listings, and your high school's counseling office for any last-minute sources of aid or scholarship money that went unused in the traditional school year award period. Other scholarships have deadlines throughout the calendar year. In an online scholarship search, specify what state you live in to help you find local results, Walker recommends.

Students can also use the Web to find summer contests, such as the one being held through July on Mangan's site, MyDebtStory.com. In an effort to create a community of financial aid users, the newly launched Web site is offering $5,000 to the highest user-rated video of how to pay for college. If you have other tips not listed, the site welcomes video success stories of students who have mastered the financial aid process, too.

Though these types of contests won't garner money for the majority of students who enter, the process can at least be informative—and possibly therapeutic, Ben Mangan notes."We've found that people sometimes feel hopeless about this," he says. "The simple act of sharing their story and knowing they're not alone gives them a sense of relief from the burden they feel in carrying the education debt."

5 Tips for First-Generation College Students

By Will Geiger

As a first-generation college student, I know that the admissions process can be a treacherous affair. Students who have siblings or parents who have already navigated the road to and through college have easy access to information that first-generation students don’t. So I’ve put together some advice for my fellow trailblazers (like you) to help level the playing field.

Here are five tips to keep in mind as you continue your college search:

1. Look beyond sticker price

The sticker price of a college and the actual cost of attending that school are not the same thing.  Many schools (especially the pricey private schools) set aside large amounts of money for need-based financial aid.  In some cases, these seemingly unrealistic schools ($60,000+ price tag) can be quite affordable.  A good question to ask admissions offices is: does your school meet 100% of demonstrated need? If so, these institutions will meet the gap of tuition between what your family can afford and what the government says you can contribute.  The Net Price Calculator is a fantastic tool that is on every college’s website—it is effective for showing you the actual cost of college for you and your family.

2. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing

One of the most stressful parts of senior year is the chatter about what everyone else is doing—who is applying early, who is going where, etc.  Do not listen to any of this.  Worry about yourself and put your best foot forward.  Nothing good comes of comparing yourself to others.  This is a stressful time for students, so why make it more stressful?

3. Cast your net wide

Similar to tip #1, don’t be afraid to explore!  Do not necessarily let geography (or cost) dictate where you apply.  The Internet makes it easier than ever to research all sorts of schools.  College is a wonderful time to live in a different part of the country (or different part of the world), so take advantage of it!  If you are unable to visit, many college and universities have travel grants (essentially mini scholarships for travel expenses) available for first-generation students to help fund their college visit, including transportation to the school and flights!

4. Start early (and stay organized)

Don’t let deadlines and applications creep up on you.  Yes, in many cases, applications are not due until the year 2014!  However, once senior year starts, you will be bombarded with your toughest course load, extracurricular activities, athletics, part-time jobs, etc.  Before you know it, you will be on your winter break and deadlines will be right around the corner.  Creating a simple spreadsheet can be an easy an effective way for keeping track of your progress and deadlines.

5. Have someone else read your essay

The personal essay is a very important part of the application.  It is an opportunity for the admissions office to learn about who you are as a person, so you will want to take full advantage of that opportunity!  Proofreading can do wonders—if you can, ask a teacher, counselor, parent, sibling, etc. to look over it for you.  Even if everything is technically sound, it can be useful to get another person’s perspective or interpretation of your essay.

Check out the websites below:

Pima Community College Scholarships & Grants

PCC helps you achieve your dreams through scholarships and grants. Unlike loans, scholarships or grants never have to be paid back. Performance-based scholarships not only assist with your financial needs, they are a reward for your hard work and distinguish you as an outstanding student. Here are some of your grant and scholarship options:

PCC Foundation Scholarships

Many scholarships are available through the PCC Foundation. Some are general scholarships, while others are based on program of study or merit. Although due dates for individual scholarships vary, applications for the majority of the scholarships are available in the spring of each year.

Adelante Program

The Adelante program is a performance-based award program that provides selected, eligible Latino male students with financial support and specialized student services.

All-Arizona Academic Team Scholarship

All Arizona Academic Team Scholarships are available to qualified students from each PCC campus.  Applications are generally accepted October - November.

Chancellor's Recognition Scholarship

The Chancellor's Recognition Scholarship is awarded to well-rounded graduating high school students from Pima County. If you have shown academic competency and made contributions in several aspects of academic and civic life you may be eligible. The deadline for 2013-2014 applications is April 26, 2013.

Pima Book Scholarships

Pima Book Scholarships, funded by the Follett Bookstore, are available to help qualified PCC students purchase textbooks. If you have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or a minimum score of 550 on the GED, you may be eligible. The application period for 2013-2014 is March 4 - May 31, 2013.

PCC Student Grants Program

The PCC Student Grants Program provides full or partial tuition and fees, or a textbook stipend to qualified, selected applicants. You must apply and meet the qualifications to be eligible to compete for these grants.

Aztec Activity Grant

If you are a qualified student who also performs community service or volunteer work, or participates in student life activities, you may be eligible for the Aztec Activity Grant. The deadline for 2013-2014 applications is May 31, 2013.

Pima Opportunity Grant

The Pima Opportunity Grant may be available to you if you are a qualified student with a specific level of financial need.

Other Scholarships

Scholarship funds are also available through community groups, organizations and companies outside of PCC. The financial aid office receives information periodically about available scholarships in the community. Check with a campus Student Services Center for the latest available information. Other sources of information on scholarships and financial aid are available at campus libraries and public libraries. Ask a librarian for assistance in finding these references. You may also find financial aid resources online.
NOTE: If you should receive scholarship money from outside PCC and receive scholarship funds directly, you must notify their financial aid office.
Watch Out for Scholarship Scams
Every year there are a few scholarship search "scams" that imitate legitimate search companies, foundations and sponsors. These companies may request money for their services, advertise that they "guarantee" results or ask for inappropriate personal information such as your bank or Social Security number. Beware of anyone who requests money for scholarship search services. To learn more visit Scholarship Scams.

UNCF Scholarship Programs

The UNCF Program Services Department manages various scholarship programs. Each program has its own eligibility criteria, open/close dates and required documentation. To apply for a UNCF scholarship, you must apply through the on-line application process. As many of the UNCF scholarships require that the scholarship recipient apply for Federal Student Aid, it is recommended that applicants complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Get in-depth information on federal student aid programs and applying for financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
If you are a student attending a UNCF-member college or university, it is highly recommended that you also complete the UNCF general scholarship application. Once a student completes the application, the information will be used to match you to many of the specific programs administered by UNCF. The general application, however, does not apply to scholarship programs that require a separate application.
UNCF Scholarship Applications are closed for the 2012/13 academic year. Opportunities for the 2013/14 academic year will be available beginning August 1, 2013.
