The Key to Employment for the 21st Century Symposium
The Key to Employment for the 21st Century Symposium - February 11, 2015, 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., University of Arizona Student Union Ballroom, 1303 E. University Blvd.
Students and educators from around Pima County attend this annual event which is supported by the City of Tucson, Pima County, the University of Arizona, and Pima Community College. This Symposium is designed to introduce students to high tech industries as career options for their future, and since its inception has reached over 6,000 students.
2015 Key to Employment Exhibitors: Click here to fill out and submit an exhibitor form for this event. Forms must be submitted by January 16, 2015 to reserve a space at the event.

Homework Help and Learning Supports at the Pima County Public Library

Pima County Public Library (PCPL) supports learning and education in a variety of ways. Library staff provides programming in technology, creativity, skill building in reading and math, and STE(A)M topics that supplement and enhance what a student learns during the regular school day. Electronic resources include databases, tutorials, videos, audiobooks, ebooks, and access to practice tests and a writing lab, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Online tutors are available for students (K-College) to help with all subject areas from 2pm-11pm every day of the week. Face-to-face homework help is also available at a limited number of locations.
College-bound students can practice taking the PSAT, SAT, and ACT exams using Learning Express Library or they can use tools to prepare for college and the entrance exams with Gale Reference Center (http://www.library.pima.gov/resources/learn/study.php). PCPL also provides access to the Regional College Access Center in partnership with the Metropolitan Education Commission as well as other information related to colleges, scholarships, and financial aid (http://www.library.pima.gov/research/guides/colleges.php).
What do you need to access all of these great resources? A Library Card. September is National Library Card month and PCPL is dedicated to making sure every student has a card. Students can check out materials, use electronic resources at school or at home, or they can come to the library and use the public computers available at every location. In order to increase children's access to library resources, PCPL implemented a policy that no late fees are ever assessed to children's or teen's materials.
Where do you find all of this great information? http://www.library.pima.gov/resources/learn/ Our website has links to every resource you need to help your student learn. The information is easy to access and encourages parent participation in the process. Electronic resources include sample lesson plans, content level based on lexile scores, and cross-reference to other databases so you can create a comprehensive learning environment. Make flashcards, games, and interactive practice tests for any subject area.
How do you get your student a library card? You can have students take home a library card request form to be filled out by parents. Students return them to you with a parent signature and then you turn them into the library for issuance of a library card. Even if a child cannot get a parent signature, he/she can be issued a limited (complete computer and electronic resource access, 2-item checkout limit) library card. The request forms can be mailed, hand carried, or scanned in and emailed to a library staff person. Library cards can be delivered or mailed to your classroom.

Pima County Youth Arts Award
The Pima County Youth Arts Award (PCYAA) is an awards program designed to identify, recognize and encourage talented high school seniors within Pima County who demonstrate excellence in the following disciplines: Dance, Music, Theater, Visual Arts, Media Arts, or Literary Arts.
The PCYAA is an opportunity for young adults to showcase their talents and secure funds for educational costs at Pima Community College. Scholarships are typically made in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. Awards are made possible through collaboration between the Pima Community College Foundation and the Tucson Pima Arts Council.
Award: $1000-$2000

Chancellor’s Recognition Scholarship - Pima Community College
If you are graduating from a Pima County high school and you are a well-rounded student who has shown academic competency and has made contributions in several areas of academic and civic life, you may be a candidate for the Chancellor’s Recognition Scholarship. The scholarship provides one full year of full-time enrollment at Pima Community College.
Evaluation Criteria
Broad evaluation criteria have been developed to allow consideration of non-traditional achievements such as
- evidence of overcoming obstacles and persisting to achieve an objective.
- the ability to engage and motivate others.
- a strong commitment to community development.
Eligibility
Eligibility for Chancellor’s Recognition Scholarship requires:
- a minimum high school GPA of 2.75.
- participation in school or community activities.
- a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor or teacher that addresses your potential for college success and leadership.
- The deadline for 2013-2014 applications is April 26, 2013.

Rincon Rotary Club Scholarship - $1000
Graduating seniors (or continuing current college students), Pima county residents, with a 2.5 GPA or better. Requirements: Complete Scholarship Application form (Download along with instruction letter form website below). Include cover letter describing yourself, your background, and your plans for the future, any special financial needs and an indication of how you will use the scholarship, if awarded. Attach an essay up to two pages (typed and doublespaced. See application for details). Include a copy of your current high school or college transcripts. Include at least three letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or employers.

Annual Tucson Metro Chamber Scholarships - $2000
The Tucson Center for Cultural Enrichment, a 501c(3) entity of the Tucson Metro Chamber will award seven scholarships to graduating high school seniors with a scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each. The purpose of the Tucson Center for Cultural Enrichment scholarship program is to develop a qualified workforce within the Tucson area by financially assisting deserving high school seniors to continue their education and establish a career in Tucson.
If you are interested in attending an accredited higher education institution in the Tucson area after graduation, this is an opportunity for you.

- Have a record of acceptable school performance (must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale).
- Demonstrated outstanding qualities of positive citizenship in school and community life.
- Must use scholarship in the next twelve months; funds will be deposited directly into student’s bursar account.
- Funds must be used at a local accredited higher educational institution or an accredited vocational school in Pima County.
- Recipients must report on their college career at least once a school year to the Scholarship Committee through an email survey.
- Must attend the State of Education luncheon to receive the award on May 15, 2013.
- Must attend the financial literacy workshop in April. Applicants will be informed of the date, time and location of the workshop.
